Kim Smith awarded British Empire Medal

Kim Smith has been an incredible force in the community. As well as celebrating more than 10 years as Centre Manager at Winshill Neighbourhood Resource Centre, Kim has been a Youth Activity Coordinator in East Staffordshire, running youth groups and youth intervention programmes.

She also works with community groups and organisations to hold community events.

After being honoured in the King’s New Year’s honours list, Kim said: “I was really shocked and overwhelmed. It was a lovely day and emotional as my children were with me too.

“It’s so nice to think that just an ordinary mum like me from Winshill, has a BEM. Never in a million years would I have thought I would have this award or even be invited to Buckingham Palace for afternoon tea.”

Kim was presented with her medal by the Lord-Lieutenant, Ian Dudson CBE KStJ.

Congratulations Kim!
