At Trent & Dove, we recognise that people’s health can change over time and have additional needs. We may be able to help to make your home safer and more suitable, through adaptations.
Our approach to adaptations, and how we work with the Local Authority can be found in our Disabled Adaptations Policy.
Adaptations fall into one of two categories: Minor adaptations and Major adaptations.
These are small changes to your home such as:
The works will typically cost less than £1,000. Minor adaptations will not be means-tested and will be provided free of charge by Trent & Dove (subject to budget).
If you require a minor adaptation, please call us on 01283 528 528.
When you get in touch, please provide as much information as possible so we can assess your needs accurately.
A major adaptation is defined as one that costs more than £1,000. Major adaptations could include but not limited to:
For all major adaptations, tenants must contact their local authority care and support services and request an Occupational Therapist (OT) assessment. The OT will visit you in your home and assess their needs. Links on how to do this are at the bottom of the page.
If the OT agrees to the adaptation, they will send Trent & Dove an adaptation request form detailing the adaptation required and seek permission for the major adaptations works to be carried out.
Where eligible, all major adaptations will be funded through the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG).
Each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis, so it’s important that we receive as much information as possible.
Once a request has been reviewed, we’ll contact you to inform you of the decision. We aim to contact customers with a decision within 30 days. This may take a little longer for more complex cases.
Trent & Dove are required to give landlord permission for any major adaptation works to be undertaken.
Trent & Dove reserves the right to refuse to fund or provide permission for adaptations.
We might not grant permission for an adaptation for several reasons, but we’ll always discuss the reasons with you and any alternative options (such as helping you move to a more suitable home). Full information can be found in the Disable Adaptations Policy.
