New Life for Bargates
The redevelopment of Bargates, which started in March 2023 will provide more than 70 homes for local people with the first handovers planned for July 2025.
Trent & Dove is working with regional developer Jessup to develop 72 high-quality independent living homes for older people and ten three-bed family houses all for rent.
The project is receiving Homes England grant funding via Trent & Dove’s strategic partnership with Orbit and work on the project could directly create around 15 jobs and support the local economy through the use of local suppliers. There will also be apprenticeship opportunities for local people as part of the development and links with local schools.
Charlie Riley, Development Director at Trent & Dove, said:
This scheme fulfils a very real gap in the housing market in our area. There are limited opportunities for older people – many of whom have spent their entire lives in the town – to enjoy their later life in affordable homes, which also offer support as they need it. We’ve also been able to include ten family homes, with three bedrooms each, to create a real mixed multi-generational community. The possibility of a grandparent being able to remain close to their family is something in a few years I’d like to see made reality.
Clive Jessup, Chief Executive of Jessup, added:
Our intention is to deliver a much-needed mixed-use scheme of high-quality homes, which will benefit the local community. We look now to start commencing phase one on site, working with a local supply chain and our longstanding partner Trent & Dove.
The exchange of contracts with Jessup was undertaken in December 2022 after receiving planning permission in January 2022.
