Great partnership work to Tackle the Tippers

We were delighted to join East Staffordshire Borough Council for a day of action as part of its Tackle the Tippers campaign.

As part of a commitment to addressing fly-tipping and other environmental crimes in the Burton area, we spent a day with the Local Authority and Staffordshire Police to provide a high-profile presence and issue a reminder to ensure waste is deposited correctly.

The day of action resulted in the following:

· Seven cases of an accumulation of rubbish on privately owned land which are under investigation.

· Two cases of fly-tipping on highway land with no evidence to suggest the identity of the offender and no witnesses to the offence. This fly-tipping was removed.

· Twenty-seven large, unwanted household items were collected by the Borough Council’s Waste Management Team.

· Two large skips were provided by Eton Parish Council, which were placed on Shakespeare Road, Horninglow, for residents to dispose of any unwanted items

· A review of the existing mobile CCTV cameras currently deployed with consideration to deployments to any additional areas.

· A report was received regarding the dog fouling bins at Eton Park which was signposted to the appropriate Team.

· An abandoned vehicle was reported by a resident, which will be investigated.

· In addition, educational no fly-tipping posters were given to premises to display and leaflets were distributed to residents advising about the appropriate way to dispose of waste.

Fly-tipping is a blight on residents and communities and costly to the taxpayer in clean-up costs. It can attract rodents and other pests, be detrimental to local communities, and be hazardous to the local environment and wildlife.

Fly-tipping is an offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Officers can issue fixed penalty notices of £400, and the Courts have various powers to deal with fly-tipping, including imprisonment, unlimited fines, and an order to deprive rights to a vehicle used to commit the offence.

At Trent & Dove, we are fortunate enough to have very little fly-tipping on our land. We have not had a report of fly-tipping in the last six months.

Anyone who wishes to report fly-tipping on our land is asked to call our Customer Services Team on 01283 528528 or email hello@trentanddove.org
